The Black Panthers were a group created in October 1966 by Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton. The Goal of the Black militant group was to make black and white rights equal. Their main goals were things like health care, housing, education reform, and employment. They never got much bigger than 5,000 in about 35 different cities the black panthers were subject to a lot of investigations. The Black Panthers were founded for self defense for black people.

There were three main rules in the Black Panthers 1. Obey all orders and be mindful of your actions 2. Do not take a single needle or thread from the poor 3. turn in everything captured from the enemy. There were many other rules based upon being kind to the poor masses. One person that had a big impact on the Black Panther party was Malcom X. He showed the party that it was ok to stand up and fight for what you believe in. He represented revolutionary, dignity, and self-respect. the black panthers followed Malcom in his believe for international working class and unity.

Stokely Carmichael was a powerful figure in the black power movement. African American leaders feared that the term “black power” would promote hostility among whites and undo what the civil rights movement had accomplished. White Americans tended to interpret the “black power” slogan as a call to racial violence, blacks most often understood it as a call for racial pride and the achievement of political and economic power.
